LEGACY GIVING AND PLANNING

Estate Planning Workshop

Colonial is hosting this FREE community event. Having a will or an estate plan in place provides a sense of peace knowing that your loved ones will not have to struggle with financial decisions in addition to mourning your loss. It might not seem like a pleasant task to discuss what will happen with your assets after you die but your loved ones will be grateful that you took the time to put a plan into place. This 90 min. workshop will provide information about wills, trusts, legacy giving and other key elements of a comprehensive estate plan. Members of Colonial who are professionals in this area will lead the workshop. The workshop is FREE, but please take a moment to register to ensure we have enough materials and refreshments for everyone!

AnnuaL Commitment

Love Generously

Why does making an annual financial commitment to your church matter? Because when we give, we are making an investment in relationships and the eternal Kingdom of God. Your giving keeps the buildings running and funds important ministry initiatives, so that we can continue to Be the Light and bless our neighbors. And that starts with the mundane things like heating and cooling, keeping the lights on, and yes... coffee.

capital campaign

RESTORE update.

More than two years ago, Colonial launched the Restore Capital Campaign to upgrade our facilities. Referencing Acts: 15:12-18 "... After this I will return and rebuild David’s fallen tent. Its ruins I will rebuild, and I will restore it, that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord, even all the Gentiles who bear my name…” we set out to Restore our facilities to improve and expand our ability to fulfill our mission to be The Light of Christ in a hurting culture.

The campaign concluded May 2026 and through your overflowing generosity, God has provided $2.3 million for much-needed projects that strengthen our ministry and help us remain the Light of Christ in a hurting culture. To date, we have:

Completed significant improvements to both sanctuaries
Refreshed the youth dorm at the SKC Campus
Replaced the HVAC control system at the OP Campus
Improved SKC security by replacing several exterior doors

Projects in process include SKC Fireside Room remodel, replacing food pantry drive, Hilltop building and grounds upgrades. Additionally, audio-visual systems, and security infrastructure at both campuses.

Several exciting projects are still in process. Thank you again for your faithful generosity and for investing in Colonial’s mission and long-term ministry.

Giving FAQs

Commonly asked questions regarding giving.

We take very seriously the challenge to manage the blessings that God has bestowed on the church through the generosity of His faithful followers. It is important to us that you have confidence in Colonial’s stewardship, so that you may give confidently to support the Ministry and Mission of Colonial.

· The Session and Finance Elder, elected by the Congregation, oversee the financial operations of the church.

· Financial reports reflecting the contributions and spending are reviewed by the finance committee monthly and reviewed and approved by Session on a quarterly basis.

· Session has adopted a Fiscal Policy which governs expenditure approval levels and authority for financial decisions

· Each year the books of the church are reviewed by an outside CPA firm who issues a report to Session, independent of church staff.

· Colonial’s annual Ministry Operations Budget is reviewed and approved by Session.

The Executive Team prepares a budget to guide the operations of the church each year. The budget is initially approved by the Finance Committee and then presented to and approved by Session. A brief overview of the budget is presented at the annual congregational meeting by the Finance Elder. For more information on the annual budget please contact Executive Director of Finance & Administration, Matt Stinson, at 816-501-3001 or mstinson@colonialkc.org.

We believe that making an intentional, purposeful financial commitment is an important part of discipleship. We encourage our members to see this as a response to God’s blessing, reflecting trust in God’s future provision. Each year, your Generosity Team will ask members to make commitments for their giving to the Ministry Operating Fund for the calendar year. You can monitor progress through your Colonial Community Church Builder (CCB) account HERE , or through periodic mailed statements. If unforeseen circumstances arise you can adjust your pledge at any time.

Colonial believes in a unified budget and includes in our Ministry Operating budget the funds required to support numerous missionaries and ministries outside the walls of the church. The first 10% of each week’s offering is set aside and dedicated to this purpose. So, the best way to support the Missions work of Colonial is with regular contributions to the Ministry Operating Fund. In addition, Colonial has three special Missions offering opportunities a year, Bless Our City during Easter, Be the Light in the fall, and Walk to the Manger during the advent season.

Ultimately, Session and the Finance Elder are accountable for how church funds are spent. They approve the annual budget and review financial results as well as the annual report provided by an independent CPA. In addition, there is a Finance Committee, appointed by Session to help guide financial decisions. On staff, the Executive Director of Finance & Administration, Matt Stinson, is available to answer any questions you might have at 816-501-3001 or mstinson@colonialkc.org.
